Vinland Saga creator Makoto Yukimura recently shared his support for the new manga Farewell, My Odin. As its title implies, this series is a Viking story, not unlike Yukimura’s renowned series.

Instead of just a recommendation online, Yukimura shared a surprisingly lengthy comment regarding the series. This seal of approval can be seen on the manga’s newly released first volume.

This isn’t the first time that Yukimura has recommended a manga. In previous interviews, the renowned manga author has mentioned other titles he has been reading.

Makoto Yukimura is a renowned manga artist who first got attention for his Weekly Morning series Planetes. To follow this up, Yukimura released Vinland Saga, the epic historical manga.

This series has been serialized since 2005, and it is one of the most acclaimed seinen manga. Many manga readers even put it as one of the big three seinen titles alongside Berserk and Vagabond.

Despite the praise for the manga, Yukimura has been quite humble about his work. In fact, he even said multiple times how the anime adaptation is an even better take on the story than his original work.

Aside from talking about his series, Yukimura has also recommended other titles. Just recently, he shared his appreciation for Fist of the North Star, the iconic 80s manga.

In an interview last year, Yukimura also praised Attack on Titan during an interview with creator Hajime Isayama.

Yukimura has also expressed his fondness for My Dress-Up Darling. He said in an interview that he found it good at first, but then his appreciation for it grew the more episodes he watched.

Farewell, My Odin Gets Praised by Makoto Yukimura

Yukimura’s latest recommendation is a work that’s much closer to his own, and that is the Viking manga Farewell, My Odin.

This manga by Chihiro Yoshioka is set in 11th-century England and follows Luke, a boy who was raised by wolves. Luke regains his humanity when he is adopted by the kind-hearted priest, Crowley.

While living in a peaceful village one day, Vikings from the Kingdom of Denmark attack.

To help promote the series, Yukimura shared a 1,400-character essay that was printed in the manga’s first volume release.

This is a glowing endorsement, especially as most recommendations like these are usually just one quote.

The Farewell, My Odin manga’s first volume is out now in Japan. Sadly, fans outside of Japan won’t be able to read it yet as it has no English release currently.
