Fantastic Four Reboot Unveils Surprising Casting Process

MCU fans have been long dreading the cast that will bring back the glory of Marvel’s first family. Since the announcement that Fantastic Four will get rebooted, fans have been sending out their endless fancast with the hope that they will get heard. There have been many rumors about which actor is going to play which character, but a new update for the casting of Fantastic Four has emerged, and it offers some unexpected information for the highly anticipated MCU film.

Reed Richards is known as the face of the group and the leader. That’s why it’s just fair that fans are expecting that he will get cast first. But according to a tweet from Deadline's Justin Kroll, Marvel is looking ahead to starting the casting process for Fantastic Four this month, and they will first focus on finding the star who will play Sue Storm, and after she is set, they will start to build the rest of the team.

Sue Storm, a.k.a. the Invisible Woman, gained her powers after being exposed to a cosmic storm. She has two abilities: invisibility and force fields. She is married to Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic, and rumor has it that the reboot will also shed light on them as parents. She is the older sister of Johnny Storm/Human Torch and a close friend (and, in another universe, love interest) of Ben Grimm/The Thing. Storm is an Omega-level mutant, meaning her abilities have the potential to grow and expand beyond any discernible limit.

It seems that Sue is just as important and interesting as her husband Reed, and on a larger level, casting her as the first piece of the ensemble ensures that her character will matter in the upcoming telling. Sue's previous film incarnations, particularly those played by Jessica Alba and Kate Mara, only scratched the surface of her narrative potential or treated her as an afterthought, so fans are hoping her story will be more explored in the upcoming reboot.

In 2022, Jodie Comer was rumored to play the part of Sue, but it’s still up for confirmation as of this writing. Another recent casting rumor surfaced about Mila Kunis, as some photos of her with Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman sparked speculation that she might be in the running for the role. Irish actress Saoirse Ronan was also recently tied to the casting when Jeff Sneider shared an image of her shortly after Kroll's tweet, but he clarified that Sue’s character will be a little older than the actress.

Fantastic Four is expected to premiere on February 14, 2025.
