It was no mystery that Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was a critical disaster, but the franchise continues to chug along with more adventures for Newt and friends set down the line. After a rumored delay, we finally have a release date for the third Fantastic Beasts film, and it looks like we'll have to wait an extra year.
Originally Fantastic Beasts 3 was set to come out in 2020, but according to Collider's Jeff Sneider, the movie is now set to come out Nov. 12, 2021, with production set to begin next spring. As for the original release date, it's been given to Denis Villeneuve's Dune.
The Fantastic Beasts movies have had a two year wait period between them, but it looks like the studio is going to be taking some extra time for J.K. Rowling to polish her scripts. I have to admit, Rowling had written a wonderful series of Harry Potter books, but writing novels doesn't automatically translate to writing screenplays. When it came to Crimes of Grindelwald, a lot of people thought the film was horribly paced, and the exposition scene near the end was nothing but jarring.
Hopefully this time they would bring a more experienced screenwriter to help Rowling out when it comes to the third movie. Heck, maybe they should consider someone other than David Yates to direct these films. I mean, the guy's been making Potter films since 2007. Other than the Tarzan movie, he must be dying to work on something else.
Catch Fantastic Beasts 3 when it hits theaters Nov. 12, 2021.
