Given Mantzoukas' performance in several hit TV shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Good Place, it's undeniably clear that the actor is perfect for the role of the grumpy Mr. Dionysus. In the Percy Jackson lore, Dionysus or widely known as Mr. D is the Greek god of grape harvest, wine, orchards, fruit, fertility, madness, parties, religious ecstasy, transgender people, and theater. Mr. D also serves as the director of Camp Half-Blood.

Here's what Rick Riordan wrote about Jason Mantzoukas' casting as Mr. D / Dionysus:

"Hailing from Nahant, MA, Jason has decades of experience in movies and television, having showcased his dramatic and comedic skills in shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation, The League, The Good Place, Big Mouth and Invincible. Self-described as “100% Greek,” Jason is the perfect guy to inhabit everyone’s favorite grumpy wine god and head of camp, Dionysus. He’s also an accomplished jazz drummer!"

First played by Stanley Tucci in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, it's extremely thrilling how would Mantzoukas approach the moody character. Given Tucci's performance as Mr. D, Mantzoukas undoubtedly has big shoes to fill.

As the Disney+ series just kick-started production, fans can expect Percy Jackson & The Olympians series to premiere sometime in 2023 or 2024.
