Marvel Comics is launching a revamp of New Warriors with a cast of fresh heroes, but fans are not too keen on these new characters. Besides Trailblazer and Screentime, there's a lot of anger going toward twin heroes, Snowflake and Safespace.

According to Marvel, Snowflake and Safespace are the first non-binary heroes in Marvel; Snowflake has the ability to make snowflake-like shurikens with her powers, and her brother Safespace has the power to project force fields, but only for other people.

Writer Daniel Kibblesmith actually says that the names were meant to be ironic, and that the characters chose the titles as a way to ‘combat bullying'. Kibblesmith explains, "…it's this idea that these are terms that get thrown around on the internet that they don't see as derogatory. [They] take those words and kind of wear them as badges of honor."

Regardless to say, the internet is not having it:

Personally, I think the characters for this new iteration of New Warriors feel like stereotypes for Millenials and Zoomers, and it's kind of offensive on some level. Then again, I'm sure that the intent is coming from a good place, and maybe we shouldn't judge until the comic officially comes out.

It's also important that we see this through the lens of the intended audience which is the youth. Sure some adults may think that the characters are on the nose, but I can imagine some kids looking at these new faces and identifying with the characters.

That's just my optimistic spin on it, anyway.

New Warriors #1 is set to come out on April 15.
