It’s hard to believe that a famous manga creator would be in debt, but that’s the case recently as a certain famous mangaka is releasing a new book to pay his debt after buying way too many wristwatches.
This mangaka is none other than Hiroyuki, the creator of the popular Girlfriend, Girlfriend manga which has become quite popular, especially after the release of its anime adaptation in 2021.
Instead of being another harem romance though, Hiroyuki’s new book has a story that hits much closer to home.
Girlfriend, Girlfriend Mangaka Hiroyuki Announces a Curious New Manga
On his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Hiroyuki unveiled his new book titled A Manga Artist Who Has Had Four Works Animated Went Into Debt for 50 Million Yen as a Result of Being Addicted to Wristwatches.
There’s no real need to explain what this series is about as the incredibly long title already explains the premise.
The book’s announcement also came with a reveal of its cover art, which features the manga artist in the story who looks suspiciously like Rika from Girlfriend, Girlfriend.
Also shown on the cover are various luxury watches, including an incredibly expensive Richard Mille. The book’s tagline also name-drops brands like Omega, Rolex, and A. Lange & Söhne.
If you think that this premise is a bit too specific to be made up, you’re right, as Hiroyuki revealed that this new book is based on what’s happening to him in real life.

Hiroyuki’s New Manga Is Being Made to Pay Off His Wristwatch Debt
Yes, Hiroyuki is essentially writing about himself as he confirmed on X that he recently got deep into luxury watches. In fact, he said that he has gone into debt, and he wrote the book to help pay off his loan.
While it seems like Hiroyuki is joking, it seems like he has actually gotten too deep into wristwatches. Based on his posts though, Hiroyuki seems to be showing no signs of slowing down with his hobby.
Funnily enough, Fairy Tail creator Hiro Mashima noticed this book announcement as he replied that he was interested in getting a copy.
Hiroyuki soon replied, telling Mashima that he should also get into wristwatches and that he’d be more than happy to guide him.
As Hiroyuki continues to dive deep into luxury watch collecting, he’ll need to hope that his new book will do well when it releases on October 10.
Also releasing that month is Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2, which premieres in the first week of October.
