Falcon Actor Anthony Mackie Believes the US is Ready for a Black Captain America

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier pretty much revolves around continuing the legacy Steve Rogers left behind as the star-spangled man and the former Captain America himself has always known the person who can carry the torch and take over for him, becoming a symbol of hope and inspiration not only for America but for the entire world and that is none other than Sam Wilson aka The Falcon.

Of course, we all know that the events taking place in the Marvel Studios spinoff series will eventually lead to Sam becoming the next Captain America and according to actor Anthony Mackie himself, he believes that the United States has long been ready to accept a person of color as the Avenger draped in red, white, and blue.

In an interview with Jemele Hill, Mackie explained that representation will always be important in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he's pretty confident that the fans will embrace his version of Captain America with arms wide open. He says: "You know what, I am very, very optimistic about the reaction of if it were to come about that I would become Captain America. Because I think it's very important, representation is very important. And not so much just for little black boys, but little Asian boys, little white boys. It's going to raise conversations in every household, every dad is going to have to sit down with his son, every mom is going to have to sit down with her daughter."

The reception Mackie got in Avengers: Endgame during his emotional passing of the torch scene with Chris Evans pretty much solidified that people are ready for him to take on the Captain America mantle and let's not kid ourselves, we've all seen it coming for years. Now, whether Sam lives up to his potential still remains to be seen but I'm sure he'll do "whatever it takes" to make his old pal Steve proud.
