There's clearly no doubt that Johnny Depp has been experiencing the worst time in his life and career as of late, but the former star of the Fantastic Beasts franchise gleefully posed for a photo behind bars as he accepted a new acting award which celebrates his contribution to film. The bizarre photo surfaced just weeks after Depp lost his legal battle with The Sun over an article calling him a "wife-beater". This verdict resulted in him being requested by Warner Bros. to step down from his Gellert Grindelwald role.
The image was taken in the Bahamas over the weekend and it sees the Pirates of the Caribbean star showing off his newly-acquired trophy for Actor With Unique Visual Sensitivity, awarded by the Cameraimage Festival in Poland. The photo is quite unsettling at first glance but you know, when you think about it, we've gotten so used to seeing Depp in peculiar circumstances in the past so this shouldn't come as a huge shocker. Now, I don't know about you but in my view, this particular image shows a little bit of symbolism and it seems like this is Depp's way of firing back at his detractors who are hell-bent on ruining his legacy. One can only imagine the emotional and mental torture he's been dealing with lately but hopefully, there's still a chance for him to turn things around even though the situation continues to get uglier and messier by the day.
Fantastic Beasts 3 is slated for release in 2022.
