Ewan McGregor’s Accent For Lumiere Was Too Mexican For Beauty and The Beast

Star Wars' Ewan McGregor is playing the part of French candlestick, Lumiere, in the upcoming Beauty and The Beast live action movie starring Emma Watson. However a new report reveals that the Trainspotting 2 star's voice was considered too Mexican at first for the role.

Total Film Magazine's newest issue (via NME) just featured Disney's upcoming live action Beauty and The Beast, and not only did the publication give an exclusive new look at the movie but it also give fans a few details about the portrayals of the actors and actresses in the movie, one of which is McGregor.

According to Beauty and the Beast director, McGregor had to re-record his vocals because his first attempt at the French candlestick, Lumiere, sounded a bit more Mexican than French. Working with a vocal coach, Star Wars' Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy had to do the track for Lumiere a second time to create "a flawless, beautiful French accent."

While it may come as a shock that the McGregor couldn't do a proper French accent the first time around, it seems like his vocal lessons paid off because Lumiere's accent seems pretty good in the official Beauty and the Beast trailer.

Beauty and the Beast premieres on the big screen on March 17 this year.
