Ewan McGregor Prepares for Obi-Wan with a Little Star Wars: The Mandalorian Research

Lucasfilm might have delayed production on its upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, but prequel trilogy Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor is getting ready to reprise his role as everyone's favorite Jedi Knight – this time by watching Star Wars: The Mandalorian.

McGregor just recently went on an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to help promote his upcoming DC movie, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). During his discussion with the late-night television show host, McGregor got to talking about his highly anticipated live-action Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"We've been talking about it for a long time. It was going to be a movie, and then we decided it would be a good idea to do it as a series, so we're going to do it as a series for Disney's streaming platform," McGregor told, "And we're shooting it next year."

Obi-Wan was supposed to be a film. During the past few years, there had been rumors going around that Lucasfilm was working on a spin-off movie for the Jedi Knight. Fans were surprised when Lucasfilm finally came out with the announcement revealing that they were planning to develop and Obi-Wan series.

Despite the change in format, McGregor is eager to return to the galaxy far, far away. When asked just how he is preparing for the Obi-Wan series, McGregor said that he's started his research, watching Jon Favreau's live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.

"I liked it. I really liked it," the actor said. "And I'm just trying to keep abreast of all the new Star Wars films that come out. And I'm excited about it. It's been a long time."

The Mandalorian was a major hit for the Star Wars franchise, drawing fans in with Pedro Pascal's charisma and with the charm of the doe-eyed swamp rat, Baby Yoda.

We definitely can't wait to see whether Obi-Wan draws fans the same way as The Mandalorian.
