Ewan McGregor On When Star Wars’ Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Begins Production

Star Wars fans were thrilled when Lucasfilm announced that it was bringing back Ewan McGregor for its new Obi-Wan series for Disney's upcoming streaming site. However, there's barely been any word out about the show. For the past few months, Lucasfilm has been focusing on the marketing campaign for Jon Favreau's new show, Star Wars: The Mandalorian, a series set to premiere during the Disney+ launch in November.

Now, it seems like we finally have a production date on Obi-Wan. Men's Journal just recently interviewed McGregor for a new profile, and during the discussion, the Star Wars prequel trilogy star revealed that production for his new series would begin during summer next year.

Summer 2020 might not seem that far off, but it's very likely that this production date could point to a premiere sometime in 2021. Disney probably wants to pace its series well, giving time for fans to focus on The Mandalorian which is most likely going to air till the end of 2019 or until early 2020.

There's a lot of anticipation building up over The Mandalorian. Set in the outer rim of everyone's favorite galaxy far, far away, the series puts its focus on the adventures of a lone warrior played by Game of Thrones and Kingsman actor Pedro Pascal. The cast list also includes Gina Carrino, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Bill Bur, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Taika Waititi.

Waititi is also working as one of the show's episode directors together with Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian premieres November 12, 2019.
