Eternals Writers Hint Major Marvel Villain Appearing in Sequel

While a sequel to Eternals has not been given a formal green light, there are already questions about how the story of MCU's immortal superheroes will move forward and what kind of cosmic threat will they face next. One of the names that fans keep on bringing up is the planet-eating villain Galactus. But as it turns out, we might actually see him in the sequel.

In an interview with The Direct, Eternals co-screenwriters Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo discussed the possibility of having Galactus as the villain for the potential sequel. Kaz said, "Galactus is an amazing, amazing character, and villain. We are, you know, obviously setting the stage for intergalactic, cosmic, megalith confrontations, especially when you kill a space god—and then the space god comes and kidnaps you and plans to judge Earth, I think the door is very much open for world-eating villains."

He continued, "There’s definitely conversations about these post-credits sequences, about who we’re introducing, where we’re going… Galactus is one of those iconic figures of the Marvel Universe that we’re excited to see. But sometimes I think you leave yourself open, you leave these doors open, and who knows what’s happening in number two. Maybe you’re too busy saving a Celestial from Galactus that you end up incurring his [wrath]… anything’s possible. You know we don’t know where we’re going to go in number 2 yet, but if audiences want to see it, we’re excited to explore it."

Fans would definitely love to see Galactus as the main baddie someday in the MCU and it would make sense for him to show up in an Eternals sequel. However, Galactus is a villain that is associated with the Fantastic Four and it might be better if we see Marvel's First Family as the ones who will face him. We know that Marvel Studios is developing a Fantastic Four movie so it is very possible.

Also, Galactus is a huge threat in the Marvel Universe. He could be envisioned as a Thanos-like threat where he could be the main baddie in an upcoming phase and it wouldn't be surprising if a future Avengers movie will also have him as the villain since he is a threat that could endanger the entire universe and it would take multiple heroes to defeat him.

Marvel hasn't announced an Eternals sequel yet, but the characters are expected to show up in future MCU projects. Given the box office results and audience response, it is very likely that they will move forward with a second film. We shall find out soon.
