One of the Eternals leading the star-studded cast, Salma Hayek is definitely excited about being a superhero and the matriarch of the age-old band of a race that inhabited Earth for thousands of years. Owning the role of Ajak, a gender-swapped hero, Hayek has a lot of personalization on the character and when asked by Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool and just became a part of the MCU through a short, Hayek had to deny her involvement.

In a chat with PhaseZero, Hayek revealed that Jackson and Reynolds, both of whom she co-starred with in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, were asking questions about her involvement in the MCU and Hayek said that it was “terrible” since she had to keep secrets that are really hard to keep. She even said that she was “dying to brag” but cannot because her involvement was still a secret then.

Hayek had to keep it all in and her thoughts are running wild, she said, “I was like, ‘Oh I wonder if I get fired if I just say it to these two, you know.”

Listening to Jackson and Reynolds, Hayek really wanted to get into the conversation by asking a few questions as she was just trying to learn, “[Reynolds and Jackson] were asking questions to each other because Deadpool wasn’t, but now is. And Ryan, he was entering and Sam is the expert, and I was just like, trying to listen, asking little questions and trying to learn.”

Jackson, however, had a hint that she is joining the MCU, "And then one day I’m sitting with Sam right after they were talking about [the MCU]. And he goes ‘So, how much are they going to pay you?'... I go, ‘What are you talking about?’ He goes, ‘Come on. I’ve been watching you, and you’re in a Marvel movie, and you don’t want to say because they told you not to say it. It’s OK, I’m part of the family.’ It was incredible! He picked up my nervousness to brag.”

As for Jolie who was in the same chat, she said joining in the MCU was like “joining the mafia.” The Eternals, excluding Gemma Chan who already appeared in Captain Marvel, are newcomers to the MCU and with the film about to arrive, they would be entering into a world where anything is possible.

Two of the industry’s best actresses would be gracing the MCU as Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek debuts in Eternals premiering on November 5, 2021 in theaters.
