There is little doubt that the Eternals are a powerful group that has lived for thousands of years. But how would it feel to be over 7,000 years old and yet still look like a child? Eternals star Lia McHugh has revealed the pros and cons of being Sprite, the only Eternal who still looks like a little girl.
Playing Sprite is undoubtedly a great role for any child actor and McHugh is well aware of this. While speaking to Screenrant on the set of Eternals, the young actress confirmed that it was a challenge to portray an ancient being who is understandably frustrated about her appearance.
"Sprite wants to be an adult and be able to have-- like, because if you were thousands of years old in a child body, people would treat you differently," McHugh said. "They treat you like a child, and they don't tell you things, or it's just stuff like that, where she wants to feel like she's the adult because she is."
Although she looks like a little girl, Sprite is highly respected by the other Eternals since, according to McHugh, she is actually "the adult of the group." Additionally, looking the way she does also gives Sprite an awesome advantage.
"[The other Eternals] don't treat me like a kid. But sometimes Sprite acts like a kid because she can get away with it," McHugh explained.
Looking like a child certainly has its advantages and it suits Sprite considering that her special ability is creating illusions. So far, we've only seen a glimpse of what this Eternal is capable of in the trailers and we can't wait to see her in action this November.
Eternals is directed by Chloe Zhao and boasts of an all-star cast including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie. The film will premiere in theaters on November 5, 2021.
