Eternals Producer Says Sequel is Not Necessary

As Eternals is nearing its release in theaters, more information is coming about the film from the press junkets that the cast and filmmakers are undergoing. Even though the public has not seen it, there have been questions already by fans if there will be a sequel since most MCU films have follow-up installments that would sometimes lead to a trilogy.

In an interview with The Toronto Sun, Eternals producer Nate Moore shared that they are exploring ideas for follow-up films, but he said that they are not necessary. He explained, "It's not something that is a must-have. Obviously, we have ideas of where we could go, but there isn't a hard and fast rule where we have to have three of these things and this is the first."

There's a chance that Marvel Studios is waiting for the film's box office results before they go ahead with a sequel. Right now, the film is already receiving mixed responses from critics, but they are going to rely on the audience's response and the box office outcome which will tell if the public demands more of the characters and is financially viable to do a sequel. There's also the possibility that Eternals was just meant to be a one-off story and the characters will appear from time to time in future MCU films and shows as supporting players.

It's hard to speculate right now since most of us have not seen the film. We don't know who will survive at the end and what the ending and post-credits scenes hint about the future of the Eternals. We know that the characters will have a bigger role moving forward and the team at Marvel has plans for them in years to come, but we need to wait and see the film to see what an Eternals sequel might look like or if there is a need for a follow-up story at all.
