Eternals Star Kumail Nanjiani Gets Honest About the Movie's Divisive Reception

Eternals is considered the most divisive MCU film to date. While it did well at the box office, it has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes critics score to date with 47% which is also the only film so far that is on the rotten scale. So far, Marvel Studios has not laid out their plans for whether the film will have a sequel, but they are expected to bring back the character in the future.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Screen Rant), Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Kingo, reflected on the film's divisive reception. While he feels disappointed that it wasn't universally loved, he also believes that people will appreciate it more as time progresses.

"It would’ve been great to not have that thing where Emily [Gordon] says like, 'You have to have more f*** you about all this, like f*** you this is good I love it.' I love Eternals, I think it's fantastic. It did bum me out that it was sort of divisive. I think it's a very very, Chloe [Zhao] made a very very ambitious huge movie that’s very different from most comic book movies," he said.

"She went for a really really high bar. Of course, it would’ve been great if every single person on Earth loved it, but I love it. I still think at some point people are going to rewatch that movie and realize that there’s a lot more to it to give it credit for. I love Chloe, she’s such a great filmmaker."

It is not surprising to hear Nanjiani defend the film since he is also part of the cast. However, he is not alone in that group since there are fans who are also defenders of the film and disagree with the divisive reactions that it was getting. Who knows, as the actor said, maybe time does indeed will be kind to the film in years to come.

So far, we still don't know what's next for the characters in the MCU although we should be hearing more details about it in the coming months as Marvel Studios is still mapping out the future.
