Eternals Director Reveals Why She Cast [SPOILER] in Surprise MCU Role

People can't stop talking about Eternals, thanks to the exciting cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. Most notably, a new MCU character was introduced in the mid-credits scene and he is played by the most unexpected actor. However, director Chloe Zhao has admitted that she had wanted to work with the famous celebrity since his awesome performance in Dunkirk. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD, PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

In the Eternals mid-credits scene, the remaining Eternals Thena, Makkari and Druig are having a hard time looking for others like them around the universe. Just as they are considering returning to Earth, Pip the Troll shows up and introduces them to Eros, who happens to be Thanos' brother and someone who is willing to help them.

The best thing about this scene is realizing that Pip the Troll is voiced by Patton Oswalt while Eros is portrayed by none other than Harry Styles. Amazingly, Zhao told CinemaBlend that she had wanted to cast the former One Direction singer after Christopher Nolan cast him in a previous project.

“I kept tabs on Harry Styles since he appeared in Dunkirk because whoever Nolan casts I always keep an eye open,” Zhao said. She then added that she decided that Styles was perfect for the role because the character “came to life when I met him.”

It's awesome to know that Zhao didn't have to look far to cast the perfect actor to play Eros. In addition to that, it looks like we'll be seeing more of Starfox in the MCU. Hopefully, Styles will be back in action soon.

Eternals also featured an unexpected voice cameo from Mahershala Ali, who can be heard in the post-credits scene as Dane Whitman discovers Ebony Blade. Although Ali did not appear onscreen, it is suggested that Blade will be working with Dane as he becomes Black Knight in the MCU.

Eternals is now screening in theaters.
