Episode IX Will Have 'One Of The Most Epic' Lightsaber Battles In Star Wars History

There's been a lot of great lightsaber battles in Star Wars film history, but Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy star Daisy Ridley says that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may very well beat it all with its grand battle between Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

Speaking in an interview with Wired about Episode IX, Ridley decided to tease the Star Wars fanbase promising that The Rise of Skywalker would have "one of the most epic fights" in the science fiction soap opera.

According to the British actress, Episode IX has been focusing on making its fight sequences both look and feel lighter, something that's been achieved by the film's new lightsaber design.

"The interesting thing about this film is that we concentrate more on the fact that [the lightsabers] are light," Ridley told the publication, "Because the [old] lightsabers were so heavy, as Eunice [Huthart] said, who is our new stunt coordinator, that it was more like broadsword fighting, which isn't technically what it's supposed to be because lightsabers are supposed to be light, by nature."

To give the battle a more intense look, The Rise of Skywalker's production design team made the lightsabers lighter than they usually come.

"So they actually made them lighter for us,"the actress continued "We in this film actually have perhaps one of the most epic fights in Star Wars."

We're certainly hoping that we get an epic battle sequence. There's a lot riding on Episode IX. Not only is the film supposed to be the third and final entry in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, but it's also supposed to serve as the culmination of the Skywalker saga.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
