The Rise of Skywalker Runtime Confirms The Film As The Longest Star Wars Movie To Date

It looks like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is going to be the longest-running Star Wars movie yet.

The runtime for Star Wars: Episode IX has just been officially confirmed and though the film isn't as overwhelmingly lengthy as Avengers: Endgame and IT: Chapter 2, the final Star Wars sequel trilogy entry seems to be the longest movie in the entire Star Wars franchise.

AMC Theaters just recently announced the runtime for The Rise of Skywalker, and it looks like the movie is going to take 155 minutes of screen time. That's 2 hours and 35 minutes of Star Wars goodness. Before Episode IX, the title for the longest Star Wars movie was held by Star Wars: The Last Jedi and its 152 minute-long runtime.

Episode IX might only be three minutes longer than Episode VIII, but a lot could happen in three minutes. J.J. Abrams could have squeezed an entire fight sequence in those three minutes. He could have inserted Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver) redemption. He could have put in the death of a Star Wars character that fans all know and love. Anything's possible with an extra three minutes of screentime.

There's a lot of excitement building up over The Rise of Skywalker. Not only does the film tease the inevitable battle between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren, but the trailer seems to suggest a team-up between the two as they go against someone we assume to be Emperor Palpatine.
