Entire Rare Sheet Leaked for Ixalan, Will We Still Get Official Ixalan Previews?

Today, the entire rare sheet for Magic: The Gathering's new set, Ixalan, was released on 4chan and Reddit. The sheet itself appears to be a test run print of the set. The images released were not high resolution enough to definitively make out all the details of the cards, but a large number of card text was deciphered by 4chan users and redditors. In the past few days, different photos of the rare sheet had been released. It is now clear that someone is in possession of the entire sheet and has been slowly leaking its contents.

It is highly unusual for leaks or spoilers of a new set to be released this far ahead of schedule. The last time a leak of this scale happened was when the God Book of New Phyrexia was leaked in 2011. At the time, WOTC presented certain trusted content creators with an entire digital portfolio of new set cards, so that they could prepare articles ahead of time for the sets release and spoiler season. Unfortunately, a few content creators shared this information with pro players to use to their advantage in preparing for magic tournaments by playtesting new cards before their release. This lead to Guillaume Wafo-Tapa, Martial Moreau, and David Gauthier being banned from Magic: the Gathering for a year. The God Book was also leaked to the public, without WOTC permission and prematurely ended the entire spoiler season for New Phyrexia. As a result, WOTC no longer provides God Books before a sets release.

Will we still get a spoiler season for Ixalan? So far the leaked cards have been blurry, and the art largely obscured. But the person(s) responsible for the leak may spoil the remaining contents in high definition, leaving nothing left to preview when Ixalan is officially released.

The Ixalan Prerelease is scheduled for Septemeber 23-24, 2017, with a release date of September 29, 2017.
