As we're heading to the highly-anticipated season 5 of Emily in Paris, Lucas Bravo is feeling uncertainty regarding his future in the hit Netflix series.
Long-time viewers of Emily in Paris know that Bravo's character "sexy chef" Gabriel has been a staple of the series as he's caught up in a will they/won't they relationship with Emily Cooper.
Lucas Bravo Gets Candid on His Emily in Paris Role
In a recent interview, Bravo gets candid on his experience working in Emily in Paris and how his character Gabriel has been treated in the recent seasons.
While he is indebted to the series for giving him worldwide recognition, he felt that the series has evolved differently beyond what was originally intended.
"The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I’ve never been so far away from him. In Season 1, there was a lot of me in him," the actor said.
"But as they made him kind of unaware of his surroundings, of the dynamic, always victimizing and always being completely lost in translation and oblivious to anything that is happening around him and being manipulated by everyone.
Bravo added, "It kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole. I really grew apart from him."
The actor also shared that he tried voicing out his concerns to the production team, but he felt that Netflix was reluctant to address it and it made him reconsider his future in the series.
"I tried for seasons to bring nuances but we don’t have much liberty on set. We cannot change a word or an emotion. They know what they want and we just have to comply. It makes me question if I want to be part of Season 5 because my contract ends at Season 4," Bravo admitted.
"I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self. Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore."
Will Lucas Bravo Return in Emily in Paris Season 5?
With Bravo questioning his character's arc in the series, this made fans wonder whether he will be returning as Gabriel in Emily in Paris season 5.
Fortunately, for now, the actor has not declared that he will be leaving the series so he will likely come back next season.
However, his future remains up in the air as Bravo is still reconsidering whether he will continue playing Gabriel.
"But I love the show. It started everything for me. I love the show and the people in it. With saying that, I feel like I am not being nice or grateful, but when you love something you want it to be… you want the best version of it," Bravo said.
"I’m not going to lie, I’ve been frustrated with the direction my character is taking. But we’ll see where it goes. The show is not over."
For now, fans should watch out for any updates on Bravo's future in Emily in Paris in the coming months.
