Emily Blunt and The Rock Announce Start of Production for Disney's Jungle Cruise

Disney made waves at the box office with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, so you can't blame them for trying to bank in on more movies based on rides. A Jungle Cruise movie is in the works, and stars Emily Blunt and Dwayne ‘The Rock' Johnson have announced the start of production.

Here's the synopsis:

Based on Disneyland's theme park ride where a small riverboat takes a group of travelers through a jungle filled with dangerous animals and reptiles, but with a supernatural element.

Besides Blunt and Johnson, the film also has Paul Giamatti included in the cast. Jungle Cruise also has Jesse Plemons cast as the villain of the film. If you're not familiar with who Plemons is, you may recognize him as Todd from Breaking Bad or the asshole captain in Black Mirror's USS Callister episode.

It's also worth noting that Jungle Cruise will be yet another Jungle-themed film that the Rock will be starring in—adding fuel to theory that he's building up a loose franchise of himself starring in Jungle movies. So far, the list includes Welcome to the Jungle, Journey 2 the Mysterious Island, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and now Jungle Cruise.

Will this film be a hit? Only time will tell. Let's see how far Disney is willing to take these theme park-based movies.

Jungle Cruise comes out Oct. 11, 2019.
