While One Piece Day 2023 centered mostly on the titular series, the event also revealed that One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda’s MONSTERS manga one-shot is getting an anime by the renowned director of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Specifically, it was revealed at the One Piece anniversary event that Oda’s MONSTERS will get an anime adaptation which will be made by E&H Production and directed by Sunghoo Park.

While there are not a lot of details about it, this upcoming anime is something that many One Piece fans are interested in as it shows Oda’s style beyond his iconic series.

As the bestselling manga of all time, One Piece is no doubt the most popular work of Eiichiro Oda. This isn't just because of its popularity though but also because it’s Oda’s only serialized work.

Some fans may not know this, but One Piece isn’t the only manga that Oda created.

Prior to starting his iconic franchise, Oda created several one-shot manga which were compiled and published by Shueisha.

His first one-shot is Wanted!, a manga that won Second Class at the 44th Tezuka Awards. This one-shot has a Western setting and features bounty hunters – an element that returned in One Piece.

Oda’s other works include God's Gift for the Future which is set in contemporary time, as well as Ikki Yako which follows a monk.

However, the Oda one-shot that will get the anime treatment is MONSTERS, an intriguing manga that has a surprising connection with One Piece, as Oda confirmed that this is canon in the One Piece universe.

For those who haven’t been able to read the MONSTERS manga yet, an anime adaptation was announced at One Piece Day 2023.

Instead of Toei Animation handling this anime though, it will be made by E&H Production, the studio of director Sunghoo Park.

Although he did not come back for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Park is best known for directing the first season, as well as the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

Aside from MONSTERS, Park is also working on a new anime titled Ninja Kamui, which will be released on Adult Swim in 2024.

The upcoming MONSTERS anime will only be one TV episode in length.

Aside from its runtime, there are not a lot of details about it yet as there’s no word on a release date for now.
