Everything Everywhere All at Once Co-Director Breaks Silence on New Star Wars Gig Report

We found out yesterday that recent Oscar winners Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (or "the Daniels"), who helmed the Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All at Once, are directing an episode of the upcoming series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The news was celebrated by fans as they're looking forward to seeing what creative ideas they'll bring to their episode.

However, there are also fans of the directors who are also concerned that the duo's involvement may lead to them being stuck in the "corporate machine" and may no longer make wild original ideas like what they did in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

After the news surfaced online regarding their involvement, Kwan took to his own Instagram account to address the report where he confirmed that he and his partner are directing only one episode and assured fans that they will still focus on an original idea in their next movie.

"Lol, all of the people @ing us about getting sucked up by the 'corporate machine' can chill. These headlines are always misleading," the co-director wrote in his Instagram story.

"Don't worry. We aren't working on a whole series, we guest directed one episode. [Creator] Jon Watts approached us to do an episode awhile ago (before EEAAO even came out).

Kwan went on to give a special shoutout to the cast and crew of the series, their excitement about their involvement in a Star Wars project and revealed that they already shot the episode last year.

"We love Jon, love Star Wars, love learning new tech, we love meeting new cast and crew, and we needed the days to keep our healthcare so it was an easy yes," he added. "We shot it last year and had an incredible time working with the most talented cast and crew and I'm excited for you all to see it."

The Oscar winner closed his statement with, "Our next film will be an original Daniels project so you can stop worrying (and stop bothering me about it)."

This is certainly exciting news, especially fresh off their recent Oscar wins where their film Everything Everywhere All at Once easily dominated the night with seven wins and closed their awards season run as the most-awarded film of all time.

It also looks like the Daniels were really excited to be part of the franchise even if it's just a small part and it is curious to see whether their distinct style and voice will be integrated into their work on the episode that they helmed.
