Edge Of Tomorrow Director On The Possibility Of A Sequel

It looks like Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman wants to return to direct a sequel to his hit science fiction action movie starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

Screen Geek interviewed Liman while he was at New York City Comic-Con to promote the second season of Impulse, a YouTube Premium series set in the same world as Jumper a science fiction action movie based on a novel by Steven Gould.

The entertainment news outlet asked the director about the possibility of a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow and though it doesn't seem like Liman's certain about a follow-up to his film, he does sound pretty enthusiastic about the idea.

"We're working on that. We're still not sure if we're gonna do it or not. But it's a world that I love and that Tom [Cruise] loves and Emily [Blunt] loves and we have a great story that we're working on. So, it's definitely something to be excited to go back to," the filmmaker said.

Though it didn't really do that well at the box office, Edge of Tomorrow enjoyed rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Adapted from the Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, the movie features an inexperienced PR officer sent to the front lines in the battle against a hostile alien invasion. The army officer is promptly killed, only to be resurrected the very day after coming into contact with an alien's blood. Each iteration of the time loop the officer becomes better at combat and eventually becomes key to defeating the invasion.
