Edens Zero Netflix Release Date Announced

"The greatest space fantasy is finally an anime."

Netflix has announced on its fourth day of Geeked Week the release date for Hiro Mashima's Edens Zero.

Set to premiere on Netflix globally this coming August 26, 2021, Edens Zero is a sci-fi anime about a boy named Shiki who wants to travel around space and meet new friends. Alongside a girl named Rebecca and her cat Happy, the story will follow their adventures around the Sakura Cosmos and their search for a goddess known as Mother.

The main cast of Edens Zero features Takuma Terashima (Tokyo Revengers, Kokoro Connect) as Shiki, Mikako Komatsu (Jujutsu Kaisen, Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro) as Rebecca, and Rie Kugimiya (Fullmetal Alchemist, Gintama) as Happy. The cast will also include Shiki Aoki, Hiromichi Tezuka, and Shiori Izawa as main characters that will be introduced later on in the series.

Starting serialization in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2018, Edens Zero manga is Hiro Mashima's current major work after Fairy Tail, which was serialized from 2006-2017. Mashima is also known for his earlier work, Rave Master, which was serialized from 1999-2005.

The anime adaptation of Edens Zero is by J.C. Staff and is set to have 25 episodes. Prior to the announcement, the series has been restricted to Netflix Japan. Currently, the latest episode that was released was Episode 9. The 10th episode of Edens Zero is set for Sunday, June 13, 2021, in Japan. You can watch the English trailer for Edens Zero below:
