EA Looking Into Purchasing WB Games for Batman and Mortal Kombat Titles

It looks like EA is interested in purchasing WB Games in hopes of obtaining the rights to major titles like Batman and Mortal Kombat.

Back in June, word broke out that AT&T is looking into selling WB Games to other companies. Now, according to Heroic Hollywood, a recent EA investors call suggests that the American videogame company is looking at acquiring WB Games from AT&T.

Shoptalk might not seem much to gamers, but if EA does manage to get its hands on the company, then it will also be able to acquire major videogaming studios like NetherRealm Studios, Rocksteady, Montreal, and TT Games, allowing EA access to major properties like Mortal Kombat (through NetherRealm Studios) and Mortal Kombat.

EA will also be able to take advantage of IP owned by Warner Brothers like Harry Potter and Game of Thrones.

Speaking with investors during the earnings call, EA CFO BJorgensen teased interest in purchasing WB Games, saying that the company is always looking into acquiring new studios and IP. According to Jorgensen, EA is "more interested than ever," in obtaining EA games.

"We're always looking at that. We'll always continue to look at that. We hope we can find more. It might take some time, but trust that we're more interested than ever, because we see that talent and building great new franchises is critical to the long-term business," Jorgensen said during the investors call.

Knowing EA's reputation for microtransactions, Batman and Mortal Kombat gamers may not be too excited by the news.
