E3: Fallout 76 Will Be a 'Softcore' Online Survival RPG, Supports Multiplayer and Solo Play

Bethesda's E3 conference didn't start strong but it did end well, thanks to the reveals of Elder Scrolls 6 and a new IP called Starfield, which will be a next-generation single-player game. All these games are coming out in the future though and Bethesda made sure to tell fans that they still have titles in the present with Fallout 76, which got a gameplay trailer and release date.

During the conference, it was confirmed that 76 would indeed be an online survival RPG along with the likes of Conan Exiles and Ark: Survival Evolved. Unlike those games, however, Bethesda has assured players that they can play this game alone, just like in previous titles. In fact, they said their game isn't a hardcore survival RPG but a softcore one.

Aside from letting players go through the game solo or with friends, it won't have hundreds of players in the same world. Game director Todd Howard said that players would be able to explore the wasteland with a dozen or so other players since "it is the apocalypse after all."

Then it was announced that Fallout 76 would be coming out this year, on November 14. While great to hear, this isn't exactly alarming news. When Fallout 4 was first revealed, it also came out in the November of that year. It's good to know that the developers are consistent, even if it will likely have bugs and glitches during launch.
