E3 2017: Spider-Man for PS4 Play Mechanics & Emblem Detailed

Insomniac's Spider-Man title for the PS4 had been one of the surprises for E3 2017. Apart from surprising fans with another character that's well-loved as an alt-Spider-Man, there are a few more things that the developer was able to showcase about the upcoming title.

During the E3 panel event (via Gamingbolt), Insomniac's creative director for the game Bryan Intihar stated that the game will bring in a new dynamic for the web-slinger: parkour and physics. According to the development team, there are elements of parkour and city traversing in creating the game, which makes it a more fluid Spider-Man title in terms of movement mechanics. This is further strengthened by the fact that there is a physics system in place—and this isn't easily manipulated unless the players actually have the skill to maneuver through the game.

This brings more strategy and ability rather than button mashing, which is definitely a good welcome and a more organic approach to creating a Spider-Man game. Parkour- and physics-based mechanics certainly match the web-slingers choice of movement, and will bring a new kind of challenge that's suited for the game.

It seems like Insomniac is hitting the right notes with its Spider-Man project. Even the apparent redesign of the costume—that giant white spider emblazoned on Spidey's chest is certainly different—will apparently be explained in the game. What's more, it's not just an aesthetical change, since the developer is teasing that it serves the purpose.

Insomniac's Spider-Man will be out on the PS4 sometime in 2018.
