Dungeons and Dragons Movie Won't be a Comedy but Will Have Funny Moments

Dungeons and Dragons is getting a movie, which is appropriate when you consider just how popular tabletop games have been in recent years. This is expected to be better than the last DnD movie, which many consider being "so bad it's good." Maybe it's because they want to escape the poor reputation that the last film had but the writers of this movie have stated that this won't be a straight-up comedy like its predecessor, though it will have funny moments.

Basically, like a Marvel movie or a modern blockbuster, if anything else.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein stated that they want their DnD movie to be fun but not an all-out comedy. It will definitely have some funny moments since most DnD games have those but they just wanted to make it clear that this won't be too funny if you catch our drift. Not everything has to be Family Guy after all.

"We want it to be fun. It's not an out and out comedy, but it is an action-fantasy movie with a lot of comedic elements and characters we hope people will really get into and enjoy watching their adventures."

That's an understandable tone to reach for since you want people to have fun with your movie while also wanting to add stakes. After all, if everything is a joke then why should you care about the people on the screen? It's a balance that a lot of movies don't always get to do so here's hoping this new Dungeons and Dragons exceeds in that regard.

No release date for the new Dungeons and Dragons movie has been released.
