The nominees for the 2022 Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards have been announced which covers the films and TV shows that were released in 2021. Ten films are vying for the top prize Best Theatrical Motion Picture while five TV shows are competing in each television category. The PGA Awards honor the excellence in films and TV shows with the producers themselves getting recognition from their peers.
Dune is among the ten nominees competing for Best Theatrical Motion Picture alongside other films such as Being the Ricardos, Belfast, CODA, Don't Look Up, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, The Power of the Dog, tick, tick...BOOM!, and West Side Story. Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, and director Denis Villeneuve are the producers listed as the nominees representing the hit science-fiction epic.
Meanwhile, the hit MCU series WandaVision earned a nomination for Best Limited Series Television where it will be competing with other shows such as Dopesick, Mare of Easttown, The Underground Railroad, and The White Lotus. It is still undetermined which producers of the series will be representing the nomination.
In the Best Animated Motion Picture category, Encanto, Luca, The Mitchell vs. The Machines, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Sing 2 are the nominees who are competing in that field. The Best Episodic Television - Drama category will see shows such as The Handmaid's Tale, The Morning Show, Squid Game, Succession, and Yellowstone competing for the prize while the Comedy category has Cobra Kai, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, and Ted Lasso as the nominees.
It is impressive to see that Dune and WandaVision continue to get more awards recognition during this season as it just proves that the industry loves them and it speaks about their quality especially since it is not common to see genre films and TV shows get major recognitions. Whether will eventually win or not, getting this nomination is already a huge honor.
The winners will be announced during the in-person ceremony which is set to be held on March 19.
