Dune: Part 2 Production Start Date Reportedly Set for July 2022

There is little doubt that people are eager to see Dune: Part Two as soon as possible. After all, the first movie ended rather abruptly and fans are hoping to continue with Paul Atreides' grand story right away. So is it possible that we'll be getting cool updates on the sequel a lot sooner than expected? A new report suggests that Part 2 will begin production as early as July 2022!

It's no secret that production on Dune was completed pretty quickly but the project was in development hell for a long time. Luckily, Dune: Part 2 was greenlit soon after the film's US theatrical release and it looks like Warner Bros. wants Denis Villeneuve to work on the sequel immediately.

According to journalist Josh Encinias, a producer for Dune confirmed that Part 2 will begin filming on July 18, 2022. The producer shared the update during a Q&A session and seemed fairly confident that filming will proceed without a hitch. This means that production could be completed by late next year or early 2023, giving Villeneuve enough time to finish the whole thing for the sequel's October 2023 release.

It's an interesting update considering that Villeneuve had previously stated that he doesn't think Dune: Part Two will begin filming until late next year. Still, there is a possibility that the studios have convinced the filmmaker to work on the project sooner. Hopefully, we'll get another update about the sequel soon.

The premise of Dune: Part Two is not exactly a mystery if you're familiar with Frank Herbert's book. However, Villeneuve is aiming to make a major change in the sequel. It was previously reported that the second film will feature Zendaya's Chani as the protagonist. That's an interesting change and we're looking forward to seeing Chani's story.

Dune: Part 2 is already expected to hit theaters in October 2023.
