Dune Director Says He Will Never Do Post-Credits Scenes

Thanks to Marvel, post-credits scenes have become somewhat a trend in major blockbuster films nowadays. Usually, the purpose of a post-credits scene is to tease what's going to happen in the next film, but sometimes it can be just simply an extra gag in relation to a particular moment in the film. However, one director has spoken out and revealed that he won't be going with the trend.

Speaking with NME, Dune director Denis Villeneuve admitted that he won't be featuring post-credits scenes in his own films as he has never been a fan of them. He said, "I don’t like post-credits scenes. There is a very specific final emotion that I was looking for with the final frame [of Dune] and I don’t want to mess with that. So no, I don’t use post-credits scenes. I’ve never done that and I would never."

You can't blame Villeneuve for not wanting a post-credits scene in his own films. After all, a post-credits scene is just an extra part of a film and it's up to the filmmakers if they think they want to add it to their own films. Villeneuve has his own artistic vision for Dune and he has a purpose about why he ended it the way it did.

There's no doubt that the MCU films set the trend of having post-credits scenes and, because of that, most of the audience has learned to stick until the end of the credits whenever they watch an MCU film or any other major IP films. It is a harmless way of rewarding the viewers for sitting through the names of the people who worked on making the films that they watched and gave them an idea on what to look forward to in the future installments.

In the same interview, Villeneuve also shared his optimism for a possible Dune sequel. He said, "I think there’s a lot of enthusiasm in the reaction that we’ve got so far, but it’s my understanding that [the producers] want to wait and see the overall reaction before making a decision." So far, the critics' response to the film has been mostly positive and is already earning awards buzz. It is now also showing in theaters and on HBO Max in North America so we will find out soon enough if it will perform well enough to warrant a follow-up film.
