Dune Director Compares Paul Atreides to Michael Corleone of The Godfather

It's no secret that Paul Atreides is the most powerful character in the Dune Universe. However, there's still a lot about him that fans are learning every day. For instance, Denis Villeneuve offered an interesting comparison to describe Paul. The Blade Runner 2049 director stated that the scion of House Atreides is fairly similar to an important character from The Godfather.

Villeneuve was recently interviewed by Empire magazine about the highly anticipated Dune adaptation and the filmmaker revealed that he had a cool new perspective about the lead character of the movie (via Comicbook.com).

"Paul has been raised in a very strict environment with a lot of training because he's the son of a Duke and one day... he's training to be the Duke," Villeneuve said. "But as much as he's been prepared and trained for that role, is it really what he dreams to be? That's the contradiction of that character. It's like Michael Corleone in The Godfather – it's someone that has a very tragic fate and he will become something that he was not wishing to become."

It's an awesome way to explain what Paul's story is all about. Although he seemed destined to be a man with certain responsibilities, he actually becomes something greater for the people of Arrakis. Additionally, the idea that Timothee Chalamet is playing the character only has us more hyped up for Paul's return this December.

Dune is scheduled for release on December 18.
