Dresden Files Author Jim Butcher Talks About His Next Book 'Peace Talks'

It's been a long time since Jim Butcher released a Dresden Files book but according to an update on Jim-Butcher.com, he's working on completing the manuscript for the 16th Dresden Files novel, Peace Talks.

Although Butcher's site hasn't revealed an official synopsis for Peace Talks yet, Jim says that his ready to expand upon his typical formula and experiment with other storytelling styles: "Folks seem to have gotten the wrong impression about this book," Butcher said. "It's called ‘Peace Talks.' It's about peace. Generally, everyone is nice to each other and they have a good time. They sing a few songs and drink some good beer, then they go home with everything happily resolved."

Of course, that doesn't mean that there's no conflict in Peace Talks. "Man, can you imagine how tense it's gonna be to choose between the chicken or the fish entree when you're seated between a harpy and the creature from the Black Lagoon? Honestly, the host should've just gone for lasagna"

Of course, this was the April Fools message from Jim-Butcher.com. According to Jim's assistant on Reddit, he's already on Chapter 58 on April 8 so he's close to completing it.

Butcher revealed two of the characters that will appear in Peace Talks: "I think the readers are going to like this one. We'll get to see a lot of characters we haven't heard from in a while. At the risk of spoilers, there's a great scene with Marcone and King Korb calmly discussing a point of bureaucratic minutiae regarding water rights. It's gonna be wild."

So "Gentleman" John Marcone is back. The character first appeared in the first Dresden Files book Storm Front. King Corb, who was mentioned in The Dresden Files short story Even Hand, is a Fomor, an ancient race of water-dwelling creatures. It's going to be interesting to see how these two characters will interact with each other.

Earlier this year, Jim-Butcher.com explained why it's taking so long to write Peace Talks.

No release date has been announced for Peace Talks yet but we'll keep you updated once we hear more about the next Dresden Files book.
