Dragon Ball just announced a massive new project. On the series’ official website, the world’s first Dragon Ball theme park was announced, and it will be built in Saudi Arabia.

With Ghibli and Super Mario getting official parks, it’s no surprise that Dragon Ball is getting its own theme park. After all, Dragon Ball continues to be one of the most popular shonen franchises around the world.

This upcoming theme park will be 500,000 square meters in size, and it will feature seven themed areas inspired by different locations in the series.

All seven locations haven’t been revealed yet, but it’s confirmed that fans can expect to see areas based on the iconic Kame House, Capsule Corporation, and Beerus’ Planet.

What’s more, the park will feature over 30 attractions, with five major rides. Among these is a 70-meter-high Shenron, which will be the centerpiece of a rollercoaster.

Unlike Studio Ghibli and Nintendo’s parks, this one will be built in Saudi Arabia, as it’s being funded by the country’s sovereign wealth fund.

Why Is the Dragon Ball Theme Park Going to Be Built in Saudi Arabia?

The Dragon Ball theme park is a project under the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF). It is part of the country’s Vision 2030 initiative to diversify the Saudi Arabian economy so that it is less reliant on oil.

This theme park is one of the biggest anime-related projects from the PIF, though it is just one of the many projects by the fund.

After all, the PIF has funded sports leagues such as LIV Golf, as well as purchased teams like Newcastle United.

As the theme park's construction is still about to commence, there’s no word yet on an opening date. Given the park’s scale, it will likely take years before this theme park will be opened.

For reference, Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan took nearly four years to build, and that is just one area in a theme park complex.

Thus, the Dragon Ball theme park's opening date is likely going to be later in this decade, if not in the 2030s.
