Dragon Ball Super: Broly Director Shares More Details About Broly's Character

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball fans are excited to see the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Broly film introduce Broly into the canon series, rebooting the character after appearing in previous Dragon Ball Z films.

The film's director Tatsuya Nagamine was recently interviewed and thanks to a translation by Todd Blankenship on Twitter, we have more information about how Broly's character will be changed by series creator Akira Toriyama.

The director revealed that there are about "300-400" sheets of storyboard for Broly's actions in the film, and while Toriyama is focused on the villainous Saiyan's characterization, Nagamine was focused on "making [Broly] look super strong with various techniques."

It sounds like Broly's character will have more depth in the film, and I can't wait to see him in action. As you've seen in the trailer, Toriyama's design on Broly looks leaner than the original one we've seen in the Dragon Ball Z films.

Synopsis:

"This is the story of a new Saiyan. Earth is peaceful following the Tournament of Power. Realizing that the universes still hold many more strong people yet to see, Goku spends all his days training to reach even greater heights. Then one day, Goku and Vegeta are faced by a Saiyan called 'Broly' who they've never seen before. The Saiyans were supposed to have been almost completely wiped out in the destruction of Planet Vegeta, so what's this one doing on Earth? This encounter between the three Saiyans who have followed completely different destinies turns into a stupendous battle, with even Freeza (back from Hell) getting caught up in the mix."

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is set to release in Japanese theaters this December, and it's expected to get a U.S. release in January 2019.
