It has been years now since the Dragon Ball Super anime series ended its initial run. Finally, it was revealed that Dragon Ball is coming back in 2024 with a new anime titled Daima.

This new anime series was revealed at the Dragon Ball stage event at New York Comic Con 2023. There, the anime’s initial teaser was shared, along with details about what fans can expect.

Instead of being the long-awaited return of Super, this new anime will instead feature an original story that’s not based on any previous manga.

Dragon Ball being popular is an understatement as this series is credited with popularizing the battle shonen formula that anime and manga fans know and love.

Since the manga began in the 80s, Dragon Ball has gotten lots of manga and anime entries. The latest anime series is Dragon Ball Super, which is based on the manga of the same name. It serves as a sequel to Dragon Ball Z.

The Super manga is still ongoing, though the anime adaptation ended in 2018, likely because there wasn’t enough source material to adapt at the time.

Since then, fans have been waiting for the anime to return. There hasn’t been any announcement about it, but fans are expecting it to return at some point.

That’s because Toei Animation continues to make new Dragon Ball anime projects, including last year’s Super Hero anime film.

Now, Toei Animation is gearing up for another series, and this time, it will feature a brand-new story.

At New York Comic Con 2023, Toei Animation revealed the Dragon Ball Daima anime. This upcoming series will feature a new story that’s being developed by series creator Akira Toriyama.

There aren’t a lot of details revealed regarding the series, but the new trailer does give fans an idea. Specifically, the new trailer features younger versions of Goku, Vegeta, and other iconic characters.

The younger version of Goku may remind fans of Dragon Ball GT, the previous anime sequel that’s now considered non-canon. However, it was confirmed that this won’t be related to GT.

Dragon Ball Daima will be released in Fall 2024. For now, there’s no word yet on a specific release date for the show.
