Doug Liman On Whether Gambit Movie Is Still Happening

X-Men fans might still be holding on to the hopes of seeing Channing Tatum's Gambit movie make it to the big screen, but it seems like the project ever prospering seems rather unlikely.

Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman was the last filmmaker attached to Gambit before Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox earlier this year, and it looks like he's yet to be contacted about the movie.

The director recently spoke in an interview with Screen Geek at the New York Comic-Con to help promote his upcoming YouTube Premium series, Impulse. During his discussion with the entertainment news outlet, Liman was asked for updates about Fox's Gambit movie and whether the project would really push through.

"No. Because I don't know," Liman told Screen Geek when he was asked if he had any updates about the project. "I haven't had an update since before the buyout. I think it's done."

It really shouldn't come as a surprise to hear that Liman's uncertain about the future of the Gambit movie. The project has been in production hell for so long, passing from one director to another for years on end.

Besides production, Marvel revealed in May that it had been evaluating superhero scripts that Fox had in development before the merger. This included Gambit.

Right now Marvel has yet to confirm when it's going to introduce the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, it might take some time considering the narrative complexity of introducing the mutants.
