Does Barriss Offee Die in Tales of the Empire?

Tales of the Empire served as Barriss Offee's redemption arc after every betrayal she had committed in the past.

When she decides to help the people instead of the Empire, this prompts a confrontation with her former friend, Lyn.

As Lyn seeks the child who appears to be a Jedi, Barriss has already given their family a head start by retreating into the caves. She warns Lyn that she would not find her way out of it without her help.

Still, Lyn persisted and entered the caves without knowing how she could return.

In an attempt to help Lyn escape the mysterious cave, Barriss Offee accidentally gets stabbed in the stomach with Lyn's lightsaber.

Although we do get to see her still breathing through the nose, it remains to be seen if she will recover from the stab wound any time soon.

What Barriss Offee's Death Means in the Ending of Tales of the Empire

As much as Barriss Offee wanted to help the people, she had uncovered the dark truth about the Empire far too late. Though she was still able to help the people she had not hurt, the guilt remains.

What makes Barriss Offee's death heroic is not the fact that she faced Lyn and the Empire on her own by turning her back against it.

Instead of growing her grudge on what Lyn led her to believe, Barriss convinces Lyn that the Empire had merely threatened and scared her into thinking that "there is no way out".

The cave served as a metaphor for Lyn's "hope" of escaping the clutches of the Empire. But with Barriss' words, the cave opened and Lyn took Barriss' body out of it.
