One of the awesome surprises in the latest season of Doctor Who is undoubtedly the Time Lord's companion Yasmin Khan realizing her true feelings. Although people had mixed reactions to the romance, most Whovians loved the idea that Jodie Whittaker's character has once again found love in her own Companion. And although it seemed like a natural progression for Yaz, executive producer Matt Strevens revealed that the relationship between Doctor and Companion was not planned at all!
In the Doctor Who New Years Eve special Eve of the Daleks, Yaz ultimately realized her true feelings for the Doctor after fellow Companion Dan Lewis. Everyone was surprised about the confession, even Yaz herself, as she stated that she has never addressed her own feelings before that.
Although Whovians have been shipping the Doctor to her own Companions, this was one romance that came unexpected, as Matt Strevens confirmed at the Gallifrey One fan convention. According to Strevens, he didn't know about "Thasmin" and although Whittaker shared that there were fan speculations after the first season, the producers didn't actually consider it until much later.
It's an interesting revelation and despite being an unplanned story arc, Thasmin will be something to look forward to in the next Doctor Who Special.
It has already been confirmed that there will be more Doctor Who Specials this year. The follow-up to Eve of the Daleks is Legend of the Sea Devils, which will bring back the franchise's classic creatures and expand on their origins. It will be followed by a still-untitled special episode that will be released at the end of 2022. The third special episode is set to feature the Time Lord's next regeneration and introduce the new Doctor Who.
The Doctor Who Special Legend of The Sea Devils has not yet been given an official release date but is expected to premiere in the first half of 2022.
