Doctor Who: Hugh Grant Reportedly in Talks as Jodie Whittaker's Replacement

It looks like the next Doctor Who could be Doctor Hugh! Hugh Grant is reportedly in negotiations to play the next incarnation of the Time Lord in the BBC series. If a deal is made, Jodie Whittaker's character will regenerate into the Bridget Jones' Diary actor!

The Mirror reports that Hugh Grant is being considered as the Fourteenth Doctor in the upcoming season of Doctor Who. The report points out that the Paddington 2 star would "bring a fresh feel" to the series and that their source believes Grant is perfect for the role.

“He offers many attributes – great actor, British, award-winning, Hollywood A-lister and excellent at comedy. Conversations are in progress,” the source stated.

Hugh Grant is certainly an interesting option for the Fourteenth Doctor because of his star power. If Grant plays the next incarnation of the Time Lord, there is little doubt that we would bring in new fans to the show. However, it is also important to remember that BBC has not yet confirmed whether the Love, Actually actor is being considered for the role. With that in mind, it's best to take this with a grain of salt.

For now, there have been no updates on who will take over in the next season of Doctor Who. However, it has already been confirmed that Jodie Whittaker will be leaving after the next two Doctor Who Specials. Whittaker is expected to regenerate into the new Doctor in the third Special later this year or early 2023. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

This year's first Doctor Who special Eve of the Daleks aired on January 1, 2022. The second Special, which is titled Legend of the Sea Devils, is expected to drop this Easter. The third and final Special is then set to premiere later this year.
