Doctor Who Christmas Special 2016 Sneak Peek Focuses on Superheroes

The BBC has released a sneek for this year's Doctor Who Christmas Special, The Return of Doctor Mysterio

“I’ve always been fascinated by superheroes,” showrunner Stephen Moffat says. “Where I think superheroes are at their best is in the secret identity. The most exciting superhero, of all time, is Clark Kent. He has to be a god and pretend he isn’t. It’s the best story ever.”

The 60-minute Christmas special, written by Stephen Moffat and directed by Ed Bazalgette, stars Peter Capaldi, Charity Wakefield, Justin Chatwin, Matt Lucas, Adetomiwa Edun, Aleksandar Jovanovic and Logan Hoffman. The film was shot in Cardiff at BBC Wales Roath Lock Studios

Synopsis:

The hit BBCA series will return on Christmas day as the Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, teams up with an investigative journalist, played by Charity Wakefield and a superhero (Justin Chatwin) to save New York from a deadly alien threat.
