Doctor Strange Writer Responds to Director Leaving the Marvel Sequel

Marvel fans were met with shocking news today. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Scott Derrickson just recently decided to depart from the production of the highly anticipated Phase 4 Marvel movie, revealing that he decided to leave the Doctor Strange sequel because of creative differences with Marvel Studios.

While reports have yet to reveal the details about Derrickson's exit, the filmmaker's collaborator, C.Robert Cargill, has decided to break his silence after word came out about the director's decision to leave Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Taking to Twitter, the Doctor Strange writer decided to spread some levity after seeing Marvel fans react to Derrickson's exit.

"Oh it's going to be a quiet night, I see," Cargill joked.

The screenwriter also joked about his next project with Derrickson, saying that he and the director would be working on a sequel to Cats, one of the biggest box office bombs of 2019.

Cargill doesn't seem to be too shocked by the news over Derrickson's decision to leave Doctor Strange 2. The screenwriter must have known that the director was having issues with the production of the film and that he had been planning to leave Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Of course, we understand why fans would respond much differently to the news. Everyone was looking forward to Derrickson returning to helm Doctor Strange 2. The director did an excellent job of telling Stephen Strange's (Benedict Cumberbatch) journey in the first movie, and everyone was expecting a whole lot more from Derrickson in The Multiverse of Madness.

Such a shame that things had to turn out the way they did.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere on May 7, 2021.
