Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness might have already gotten its release date from Marvel, but it looks like the film's director, Scott Derrickson, isn't too keen on studio-mandated release dates for his films.
Taking to Twitter, the filmmaker decided to open up on his thoughts about studio-arranged releases dates, and according to Derrickson, those dates "are an enemy of the art."
It is true that studio-scheduled release dates may seem rather limiting, but blockbuster films do need a deadline. Fans just can't wait on a film like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness forever, the project needs a release date so that fans can know when to expect the film.
Right now, we have very little information about the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, though we do know that it's going to tie in together with Marvel's upcoming Disney+ series Wanda Vision and that Multiverse of Madness is also going to feature Scarlett Witch actress, Elizabeth Olsen.
Fans are looking forward to seeing the team-up between the Sorcerer Supreme and Scarlet Witch on the big screen. After all, the two characters do work closely together in the Marvel comic book universe. It would be great to see the friendship between the two blossoms on the big screen.
Right now WandaVision is in the middle of production and seeing how the show ties in with Doctor Strange 2, we can probably expect Multiverse of Madness to begin soon. Principal photography for the new Doctor Strange movie may come in the next six months or so. Let's wait and see.
