Doctor Strange 2: Kevin Feige Confirms Loki Set the Stage for Multiverse of Madness

As reported by ComicBook.com, during the red carpet premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness last Monday, when Kevin Feige was asked what set the stage for the upcoming sequel, he said, "You know, there's always a method to the madness even at the multiverse and to the Marvel.com fans who know that Loki and Sylvie did something at the end of that series that sort of allowed all of this to be possible."

Feige even mentioned the aftermath of the events of the series which had a direct effect on Spider-Man: No Way Home where Strange made the spell that led to the upcoming sequel, "He Who Remains is gone and that allowed a spell to go wrong in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which leads to the entire multiverse going quite mad."

Loki introduced the multiverse in an uncanny way where Loki from 2012 escaped from captivity when the Avengers went back in time during Endgame to retrieve the stones. Their botched plan led to Loki getting ahold of the tesseract and that led them to go back further in time to get the same stone. That meant that there was a huge change in the original timeline where Loki is supposed to go with Thor in the end of the film.

As the Ancient One discussed to Banner in Endgame, a ripple in the current reality is detrimental and the Loki series further showed that there is the existence of the Time Variance Authority where they ensure that the timeline remains as it is. Given that Loki escaped, there was an alteration creating a branched timeline.

In the end of the series, Loki and Slyvie faced He Who Remains who basically mapped out the current MCU timeline, ensuring that no branched timeline happens and preventing an uncontrollable birth of alternate timelines. Still, Slyvie’s rage led her to kill He Who Remains causing the alternate realities which is later expounded in What If..?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters on May 6, 2022. Loki is currently streaming on Disney Plus.
