Prolific director, Sam Raimi is best known for the classic horror series, Evil Dead which continued on 1992's Army of Darkness and equated to be rebooted for different franchises throughout the years. Raimi's last continuation of the Evil Dead series was on Netflix's Ash vs. Evil Dead, which lasted for 3 Seasons. With the director's success on the horror franchise, Raimi shifted into the superhero genre back in 2002, when he directed Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, and given with the box-office success of the first two films, Raimi developed it into a trilogy.
Raimi's last venture to the superhero genre was 2007's Spider-Man 3, which wrapped things up for Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. However, Sam Raimi is back again into the superhero genre in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Benedict Cumberbatch will be back again to reprise his role as the sorcerer supreme, and he will be joined by MCU newcomer, Xochitl Gomez, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and Elizabeth Olsen, who will be the big bad for the sequel.
Directing the Doctor Strange sequel might already be too impressive for Raimi's directing career, however, the director seems to have more superhero films on his directing bucket list. While speaking to Empire, Aside from doing another Spider-Man film, Raimi revealed that he would love to direct a Batman film too.
The director explained, "I’ve always loved Batman. If I ever saw the Batsignal up in the air, I’d come running. If I heard that deep, gurgling laugh of The Shadow coming from the darkness, I would also tentatively step outside. And Spider-Man would be ahead of Doctor Strange, but I don’t want to put him down the list!"
We get it, everybody loves Batman. But the chances of him doing a Batman film seems very unlikely after Matt Reeves had finally stepped on the reboot of the Batman universe with Robert Pattinson as the new Bruce Wayne. Two spinoffs are already confirmed for the new Batverse, one focused on The Penguin as the mastermind for the criminal elite, and one focused on the Arkham Asylum that sets up a Joker and Riddler villain storyline.
Sam Raimi is officially back to the superhero genre in the highly-anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. There's a bigger chance for the director to develop a new Spider-Man film, especially after Tobey Maguire made an appearance in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. If ever the MCU and Sam Raimi develop a new Spider-Man film for Tobey, no one would surely object.
Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will premiere in theaters on May 6.
