A team-up between Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch will be mind-blowing, and the two would be undoubtedly unstoppable, as both currently hold the most powerful character titles in the MCU. However, looks like Strange's biggest conflict in the sequel would be Wanda's doing.

But who exactly is more powerful?

In an interview with Fandango, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi finally responds to the "who is stronger?" endless debate.

When asked about who would win a fight, Doctor Strange or Scarlett Witch? The director admitted, "That's a question I've been asking kids on the playground since third grade. Who is stronger, this character or that character? Well, I think Wanda's magic, from Marvel lore, is more powerful than almost any of the other characters in this picture, but Doctor Strange has the knowledge of the mystic arts that Wanda doesn't have, and he's got the help of Kamar-Taj. If you were to pit them against each other, different altered versions of themselves ... there could be a Doctor Strange out there that's more powerful than our Wanda. Or there could be a Wanda out there who is more powerful than our Wanda here. So, because of these altered versions, it's all a mixed bag of possibilities."

When asked if we're going to see different variants of Wanda in the upcoming sequel, Raimi responded, "Yes. The movie is a journey into the multiverse, so you do see different iterations of Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, and even Lizzie Olsen's character of Wanda Maximoff. So, the actors have to play that. It's a great challenge for them and great fun to direct them playing these altered versions of themselves."

Wanda Maximoff a.k.a Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful characters in Marvel comics. She was able to wipe out the entirety of mutants with just one snap. But in the MCU, we had a glimpse of Wanda's chaos magic as seen on WandaVision, where she kidnapped an entire town of Westview and developed as the Scarlet Witch in the end. The antagonist of the series Agatha Harkness also mentioned that "[The Scarlet Witch's] power exceeds that of the Sorcerer Supreme," which clearly answers the question.

After all, Wanda almost defeated Thanos single-handedly at the events of Avengers: Endgame, which even Brie Larson's Captain Marvel wasn't able to accomplish.

Regardless of who wins the battle, it's certain that Doctor Strange also has his advantage as the sorcerer supreme. According to Marvel President Kevin Feige, Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange is now the anchor of the MCU. Wanda may evidently be stronger than Stephen Strange, but the sorcerer supreme certainly has more tricks on his sleeve.

Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness will hit the big screens on May 4.
