Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is getting a Free-to-Play PS4 Version

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT was something of a disappointment. Though there are a lot of people who enjoy the game, critics gave it mixed reviews, saying that it looked good and played well but didn't have a lot of content to get hooked into. Sure, there was a story mode and online multiplayer but when compared to the PSP games before it, many felt it was kind of bare.

Interestingly enough, Square Enix is going to release a new version of the game that might make them more money; a free-to-play version on the PS4. Like other free-to-play games before it, the selectable characters for players will be random and heroes can be bought permanently for a fee. It's an odd way of making back money after their recent loss but it's hard to blame them.

As expected, the game's story won't be available in this version so those that are interested in that should just cough up the big bucks for the full game. Progress made with the characters in the free-to-play version can be transferred to the original game should you choose to try it out first. This might actually be a decent way to get newer players into this game.

Despite mixed reviews, Square Enix is still planning on releasing the remaining DLC as part of the season pass. DLC past that remains to be seen.

Currently, the free-to-play version is only scheduled for a Japanese release. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
