Last year, Disney announced that it would take out its many films and TV series off of Netflix to add to its roster of original material in its upcoming streaming site, Disney+. Now, word has it that this material may very well return to Netflix.
According to a new report by Bloomberg, there might actually be a problem with Disney's plan to take out all of its films and series on Netflix in preparation for the launch of Disney+. The Mickey Mouse House's current deal with the streaming giant warrants that all of the films that Disney put up on Netflix spanning from 2016 to 2018, will actually return to Netflix in a few years time. All these films are to return beginning 2026, allowing the media to enjoy at least 6 to 7 years on Disney's upcoming streaming site.
This return to Netflix also includes exclusivity. This means that films that were put up on Netflix from 2016 to 2018 which are set to return to the streaming site starting 2026 will all be taken out of Disney+.
This report suggests that many of Marvel's films in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Captain America: Civil War, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, and Avengers: Infinity War, are all going to return to Netflix after 2026.
Disney era Star Wars films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Solo: A Star Wars Story, may also see the same return.
This is definitely going to affect fans' decisions in transferring to Disney+. Marvel's latest film, Avengers: Endgame, is currently screening in cinemas.
